She ambled down the road past fast food outlets, charity shops
and estate agents. She counted the second-hand shops – and then she spied the
coffee shop that meant she was just a corner away from Baines, Bowes and
Brammall.
She walked past the coffee shop door and then turned back
and went in. She usually has a single expresso but today she was prevaricating
and so she needed something longer.
“Cappuccino, please. The largest size you have.” The Barista,
well the girl who had qualified just two weeks ago, nodded and produced a large
cup, well more of a bowl, of hot coffee.
“Sprinkles?”
Absentmindedly, she nodded. She picked up the coffee and
pushed her way to the single chair at the back of the room.
The mobile buzzed into action. She swiped the phone ‘go to
mailbox’ and closed her eyes.
