Ten
Sophie picked up the papers. She
read them and put them down. She picked them up again and re-read them. This
was going to need a delicate touch. Time was not on her side. She needed to move
quickly so that her plan would be successful.
How to start?
She played the phone call over and
over in her head. Too keen? Not keen enough? Too formal? Not professional
enough? It had to be just right.
She pressed the buttons. “Please let
her be in. Let her answer. Don’t want the voice box. Won’t leave a message,”
she mumbled aloud.
The ringing tone stopped and a voice
answered, “Hello?”
