Sophie swallowed hard and then put
her most acceptable simpering voice.
“Hello, is that Dr Patricia Jones?” (use
full name and title – sounds more official)
“Yes?”
“Ah, so good to catch you. I know
this is a difficult time for everyone. My name is Sophie Challerton. I don’t know
if Baines, Bowes and Brammall, Mr Patrick’s firm of solicitors, mentioned me. I
am the Executor of the Will. I thought it was better to call personally than
just let those buffoons send the paperwork.”
“Look, I am not Patrick’s wife. I am
not now … and never have been. Do you hear? I’m not his wife.”
“Yes, I know,” purred Sophie.
