They were sitting in the bungalow. Neither Julie nor Pat
knew what to say. It was surreal being here in these circumstances. They each
hugged a warming cup of coffee. Black – the milk had set and been put down the
sink – glub glub.
Pat went over it again and again. Julie went from worried to
disbelieving and back to worried.
Suddenly, they heard something. The side door. It was
opening. They didn’t hear any voices. But someone was there. They looked at
each other, frozen into impotency by fear. They were superglued to their seats.
Only their heart rates rising and thumping made any noise.
