I was listening to Radio 4's 'A Good Read' and I really recommend it. Today the programme considered Discworld in 'The Colour of Magic', alongside 'The Vagrants' and 'The Great Gatsby'. The three people on the panel each choose a book and all of them read them and then talk about them. It is is amazing how very different each book is.
Today I really like the fantasy of the Terry Pratchett and the similarity of the Yiyun Li book with modern day (the novel is centred around a political act - the execution of a young woman for allegedly making counter-revolutionary jottings) and some of the horrific treatment that people still suffer.
Perhaps some reader out there has some books they would consider 'a good read'?? If you do - send us a message and suggest the title that interests you.
The Vagrants is also - a first novel for its author!! So you see anyone can write!! We hope you might feel inspired!! And we look forwards to seeing JJ's first story in print!!
