Round the World to see how far it is - 01
Venezia
Collage of a City,
Dancing, singing capriccioso, you seduced them all.
La Serenissima, ti amo Venezia.
Bridging a glorious past,
Luxuriating in indulgent, plush old-burgundy velvet,
Ravishing with envious green eyes.
Ti amo con tutto il mio cuore.
Crystal waters lap against an audacious city,
A marble carpet floating on a flood.
La Dominante, palaces, elaborate bridges criss-crossing,
Tempestuous and hot tempered,
Elegant and refined.
Hiding behind the brocade mask
Green eyes flash.
Opulent red hair cascades over cold white Istrian stone shoulders
And the water’s currents silently pass along the canals
Reminiscing the time when the vast sea empire
Revelled in power and basked in wealth,
Its authority sprawling across the continents.
Ravishing beauty once worshipped, fetishized and feared,
Your potency has not diminished but your future is condemned.
Ti amerĂ² per sempre Venezia.
Lavish city, may beautifully carved, ornate angels keep guard
And Bless you, as crowded buildings huddle in harmony,
Clutching the banks to avoid a watery grave.
Rich damask ruffles and silk garlands in your hair
The sun sparkles ever on your glassy lagoon.
Ti amo ora e per sempre.
