Julie leaned back on the sofa.
Outside the weather was dull and grey but certainly not cold. She sighed
heavily and put her wine down on the table. She looked directly at Pat and frowned.
“I know there is more to this than
you are letting on. We’ve been friends since primary school – but, but it’s
obvious you aren’t really sharing.”
Pat took a deep breath and counted
air in and out. Keep Calm. “What is it you want to know?”
Julie shuffled uncomfortably on the
settee – suddenly the look on Pat’s face was making her feel a bit guilty. Had
she gone too far?
“Look, I get that it’s horrible. Patrick
being killed. Having to meet his parents. Being accused of having married him….”
“About that…”
“I believe you, that the wedding photo
wasn’t you and you weren’t married but …”
“I lied. We were married.”
