“Look,” she continued quickly, not
giving Pat the time to object, “I do understand that this is very confusing for
you but I have some information which is of vital importance for you. I know
you don’t know me but I really think it would be helpful if we met. That way I
can put you in the picture and probably clear a lot of the confusion. Maybe we
could meet the day after tomorrow? There is a nice pub down by the riverside,
the King’s Head, it’s only a few minutes from where you live, so you probably know
it? Shall we say 1.30pm? Spot of lunch?”
Pat was overwhelmed by the pushy
voice at the other end. But maybe this would give her closure, so reluctantly
she agreed. And the line went dead. No time to change her mind.
