Happy New Year to all.

We are relaunching - and to keep things going - we will be writing a novel over 2019 - a paragraph or so a day!

so welcome to the new novel - 'The Past Catches Up'

The Past Catches Up

Chapter One

Big Ben gives the final boingggggg. Midnight. Today is now yesterday. This year is now last. Next year is as far away as it can be. Goodbye to all that. Welcome to a new start. Again.

She flicks round the stations. Same old, same old. Pop stars singing round an old piano, glimpses of New Year around the globe and re-runs of several million pounds worth of fireworks going up in smoke. So pretty above the cities that have risen to the challenge. Noisy, bright, alarming and yet somehow reassuring. Big Ben strikes and everything is new and yet the same.

She pours the tea - already overdosed on too much alcohol this week - so fresh start with green tea. The last mince pie sparkles on the plate. She settles down to watch the rest of the world catch up with the New Year.  But she falls asleep. The tea cools and the last mince pie's sugar top still glitters as the Christmas tree lights flash on - off - chaser - off - in the never ending circle of white light.

What? Where am I? What day is it? Oh yes - New Year. She spies the lonely pie and switches her attention to the TV.  What? There has been an accident - missed it. It's on the loop and will come round again. She bites into the pie then her mouth drops open.
