Sophie Challerton shuffled imperceptibly
on her chair. She put on her most engaging smile and spoke very softly and earnestly.
“The accident of Patrick was very, very sad. But, in spite of the sadness,
there is something you need to know.....”
The sudden change to hushed tones
threw Pat a little bit but she was getting irritated and she didn’t want to be
here with this woman.
“Look,” said Pat exasperated, “I was
not married to Patrick. I am not his wife!”
Sophie Challerton said, “I know.”
