Well, she was blonde. At least Pat
got that right. But she was not petite. Sophie Challerton stood up and offered
a hand across to Pat. Pat proffered her hand reluctantly. But Pat was right – Sophie
was in control. Two out of three ain’t bad.
“Sit down. Sit down. I’ve got you a
drink in. It’s soooo good to meet you at last. Now I know you will be a bit
confused about all of this. I could have emailed or sent the stuff by post, but
hey, we live in the same town don’t we, it would be rude not to meet up!”
Pat sipped the drink and watched
Sophie over the rim of the Martini and lemonade. Would she ever shut up? She didn’t
allow a minute to go by without noise filling the gaps.
Eventually, Pat put down her drink slowly
and deliberately on the beer mat. Her eyes focussed on the glass.
“Why am I here?”
