Pat looked at her watch for the third
time. Arrive on time? Arrive late? Which would give her the edge? She wasn’t
sure why she needed ‘an edge’ and yet she felt she must somehow ensure she had
the upper hand.
There was something about Sophie Challerton’s
call that had un-nerved her. Pat had a nice life just a few days ago at
Christmas. But Christmas was now last year and this was a new year and it was
not going well. She wished that Patrick had never re-entered her life.
She checked the watch again. Arrive
late – breeze in a few minutes after the meeting time. Look a bit bored with it
all and confident. But why was confident the last thing she felt?
