Martian

Martian

Landing on Horsell Common
Did you miss the bleached flag flap?
Spying from your cylinder
A flying darkened black death trap.
Did you mistake us for the enemy,
When toasting us with heated ray?
Or were you simply toying with us
Until the break of day?
The machines you made, the tripods tall
That marked the alien arrival,
Were they a sign of things to come
Of a battle for survival?
Martians, Martians, everywhere they come and sow confusion
Martians, Martians, but beware of the monstrous slow transfusion.
For fatal are the tentacles that seek and find and slay
And lethal strokes identical that havoc wreak on pray..
Martians, Martians, now you are gone, you did not prove so clever
Martians, Martians, but say not ‘so long’, you may not be gone forever.
